A landscape ten thousand years in the making — wild, ancient, and alive.

Wild open moorlands and deep river valleys, shaped by ice, weather, and human hands since the last glaciers retreated, Dartmoor is a landscape unlike any other.

Take moor care with our Ranger Code

Our rangers look after Dartmoor, it’s a unique protected landscape with rare wildlife and free roaming livestock and ponies.

Discover the Ranger Code
  • Give wildlife space

Keep dogs on a lead near livestock, don’t feed the ponies, and give grazing animals plenty of room.

  • Leave no trace

Take all litter, food waste and dog poo home with you, and leave gates as you find them.

  • Be fire aware

No open fires or BBQs , even a small spark can devastate the open moor.

  • Travel with care

Stick to the 40mph limit, watch for animals on the road, and stay on the right paths and tracks.
