Dartmoor’s open moorland provides an important home for ground-nesting birds, including some of the UK’s rarest and most threatened species.

During the nesting seasons birds build their nests directly on the ground, making them vulnerable to disturbance especially from people and dogs. If disturbed they can abandon their nests or young.

Ground Nesting bird season is 1 March to 31 July where they could be nesting anywhere on the open moorland.

By following the Ranger Code, sticking to paths, and keeping dogs under close control, you can help keep Dartmoor a safe place for wildlife to thrive.
