Our team of rangers work all year round in all weathers to look after the qualities that make Dartmoor so special.
As the main point of contact on the ground the ranger team work closely with local communities, farmers, landowners, partner organisations and visitors.
What rangers do
Their work is varied and includes maintaining public rights of way, supporting conservation, monitoring wildlife and habitats, providing advice and education, enforcing byelaws, and assisting emergency services when needed.
The rangers play an important role in helping to balance recreation, nature conservation, and the needs of those who live and work on Dartmoor.
Working across the National Park
Dartmoor rangers are often the people you will meet when out exploring the National Park.
Their knowledge and practical expertise help protect Dartmoor’s landscapes, wildlife and heritage, 365 days a year.
For their safety and welfare, rangers may occasionally wear body-worn cameras while carrying out their duties. These are used to help reduce incidents of abuse and support the safety of employees of Dartmoor National Park Authority.
