Climbing

Many of Dartmoor’s granite tors, for which the National Park is famous, offer both challenging routes and exciting bouldering opportunities for climbers.

Want to go climbing on Dartmoor?

It's best to use an experienced activity provider who can take you. The British Mountaineering Council have details about the main climbing areas, how to book your climb and the climbing guidelines

Climbing guidelines

  1. Do not remove any plants or lichens from the rock face

  2. Learn to recognise archaeological features and do not move any stones or climb on the remains of old buildings

  3. Keep noise to a minimum – ensure your climbing partner can hear you, but do not disturb other visitors, or wildlife in the area

  4. Take care to avoid disturbing livestock when approaching or leaving crags

  5. Ensure that access is permitted to the site – if in doubt ask at our National Park Visitor Centres

  6. Follow the Ranger Code
