Cycling
Dartmoor is a great place to cycle with an extensive network of quiet lanes and designated cycle routes, together with over 350km of bridleways and byways.
Plan your route
On Dartmoor, cycle on open moorland only via bridleways or permitted routes. The waterproof Dartmoor cycling map, sold at National Park Visitor Centres, shows suitable routes.
On road
Dartmoor’s narrow lanes, hidden bends and steep climbs can make road cycling rewarding, but take care and be prepared to meet tractors, livestock, ponies and other road users.
Off road
Dartmoor has some great off-road and traffic-free cycling routes on Dartmoor, but please only cycle where you are legally permitted to do so.
Cycling on open moorland or common land isn’t allowed unless on a public bridleway or on a designated route.
Check where you can go on our access and rights of way map.
